Observatory helps newsrooms turn a network of citizen observers into stories. DELLIUX built the analytics platform that recruits, manages and analyses participatory-journalism responses.
The challenge
Participatory journalism generates a flood of survey responses from a distributed network of contributors. Editors needed to recruit observers, run surveys and actually make sense of the answers — visually, and in near real time.
What we built
We built a flexible analytics workspace around the observer network:
- A customisable, drag-and-drop dashboard of analytics widgets over a rolling 30-day window
- Analytics, answers and archived question sets
- Group taxonomies and observer directories
- Surveys with CSV and third-party import/export
- A public observer-intake form with WhatsApp two-factor verification
- Role-based access and settings
The stack
Laravel with React, Inertia and TypeScript, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, Recharts, react-grid-layout, TanStack Query, Twilio WhatsApp and SmartSurvey webhooks.
The outcome
Newsrooms see their observer network as live, filterable analytics — building the dashboard they need and pulling collaborative reporting out of raw survey data.
